How do I arrange my transportation to North Central College?

For convenience and economical prices, most participants will prefer to arrange their own airline travel via on-line travel websites or through their own personal travel agent. If you prefer, you may contact our conference travel planner. Gloria Bochenski, Abbey Travel, Ltd., 1 800-828-2956, GloriaB@Abbeytvl.com Gloria would be happy to assist you with your travel needs, for a nominal fee.

Shuttle bus service will be made available at O’Hare and Midway airports at pre-determined intervals. Participants arriving at both airports will be grouped according to flight arrival time. To best suit everyone’s travel needs, we ask that all participants provide airline, flight number and arrival time on their conference registration forms.

This is my first calligraphy conference. What should I bring?

Though it is tempting to bring all the comforts of your own studio with you, please remember that you will need to carry it all!! There’s no need to travel with messy inks and paints or risk arriving with wrinkled art paper! Our calligraphic supply stores, Paper & Ink Arts and John Neal Bookseller are able to fill your conference pre-orders and have them reserved for pick-up upon your arrival at the conference.

Bed linens, a pillow and bathroom towels will be provided by the college, however, some people prefer to bring their own plush varieties. A mid-week towel change will be provided for your comfort.

Good classroom lighting is always at a premium. We encourage attendees to pack a portable desk lamp if more direct lighting is desired.

North Central College is a flat, pedestrian-friendly campus. Bring your walking shoes to get around campus comfortably. You may also enjoy an evening stroll by the Riverwalk, just a few blocks from campus.

In the annual conference tradition, we are planning a first-timers introduction and meeting for the first evening. It’s a fun way to become familiar with the week-long schedule of events and meet other first-time conference attendees and calligraphic companions!

I’m a little nervous about attending my first calligraphy conference. How can I get the best from my experience?

Settling in at Letters Mingle Souls will be made much easier for those “Un-Initialed” calligraphy conference goers by attending a newcomers meeting run by Mary Ann David. After checking in at the Conference Office, you’ll receive your dorm key and a campus map and other goodies. You’ll want to explore the campus a bit then meet up with fellow first-timers at the Conference Office/Boilerhouse Café in the lower level at 4:30 p.m. Mary Ann will give you pointers on how to make the best of your week.

Can I reserve a space to stay on campus before and after conference?

There is a possibility of limited dormitory space prior to the start of conference. Be sure to get our latest updates by checking this site regularly.

There is also a multitude of local hotels which may offer special discounted rates to conference family members and participants who choose to arrive early and/or extend their stay after the conference.

Will my family members be able to join me?

Some participants may wish to bring companions or family members to conference. Please be advised that on-campus housing is first assigned to registered conference participants. We will provide additional information regarding local hotels for those who wish to bring their families to see all the attractions that Naperville and Chicago have to offer. Please visit the following link(s) to plan your family’s sightseeing schedule: www.choosechicago.com
